It looks like the time has come for me to retire my beloved 12 year old Honda Accord! Timing is awful but there's not many choices left. My car started sputtering a few days ago so I took in for a diagnostic test. ****sighing deeply**** It's the daggum transmission - $3,292, catalytic converter - $900ish and something else that I can't recall - $200ish. When you add it all up, we're talking darn near $5,500. Oh my goodness, I have no idea what I'm going to do. This was sooo not in the plans for 2010. Okay, gotta regroup and figure this situation out because I DO NOT, and I repeat DO NOT want a car note EVER AGAIN IN LIFE!

I'm sorry to hear this about your car... but as for the transmission: Well, do you have to drive the car on the highway a lot?
I said my car is trusty and wonderful but a year ago the transmission started slipping and lurching. I have learned how to "baby" it and I can drive it all around town now but I admit I am afraid of the fastest highways because 65+ is difficult and I'm afraid if I have to get up to speed on, say, an uphill merge, it might not be safely possible.
I'm just saying that a car with an iffy transmission can still be fine for all around town, minus superhighways. I know this probably doesn't help.
Ugh! Ack! Owww!
I felt the pain in your words. Car payments suck wind!!!
Sorry to hear about your Honda. I have an old Accord, too, and I sure hope it lasts another 8 months. Is your car drivable?
Yeesh. Sorry to hear about this. I hope you can atleast take some solace in the fact that you were able to drive the car for 12 years with what I assume is minimal repairs and maintenance costs. But yeah, that sucks. Let us know what you plan to do to replace the ride.
Oy Yee Vay! My friend bought a decent older car for $2500 and hes had it for 5 years now. Maybe you could find another Honda Accord. They are good cars.
